Update from the Mayor — March 24, 2020

On this episode of Eye On The Valley presented by SCVi & iLEAD Schools, Santa Clarita Mayor, Cameron Smyth, calls in to the show again to give us an update on how Santa Clarita is working to stop the spread of Covid-19. The Mayor provides updates on the closed public hiking trails and city parks. The Mayor also talks about how these same public parks have closed all public basketball courts, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, and dog parks. The Mayor also commented he was disappointed about the amount of people still going out in public and not following guidelines. Mayor Smyth fears more aggressive steps will have to be taken if the people of Santa Clarita aren’t able to do a better job of quarantining. The Mayor talks about how the state does not want to send the police to have to enforce the measures because they need to be focused on greater issues in the city. Mayor Smyth finishes by showing gratitude for those who are listening to the guidelines, and everyone that is working hard to continue to help maintain the other local infrastructure in the community. Later in the show, Matt and Amber talk about how to deal with power struggles and fighting for control in the household. Matt and Amber talk about how important it is share the control of functions in the household in order to create a more adhesive family bond. Matt and Amber also talk about the difference between presenting a choice and disguising a choice as a threat. There are a number of ways parents can present choices that helps their children take control of their own lives so you don’t feel the need to control too much.

In the second hour, Aiden Bybee, Play-based Learning Expert joins the show to talk about how to stimulate children and keep their creativity levels extremely while they are spending a lot more time indoors now. Aiden adds to the excellent information provided in today’s episode, and shares her experiences and what she has found to be most useful.
