Santa Clarita life coach Alex Urbina was joined in the studio on his most recent radio show by local resident Dave Cantrell from American Family Funding for a live coaching session about be coachable, coaching and being an inspirational parent.

Alex has explained that in his experience, to have big breakthroughs, a person must be “coachable” to be coached. Dave has been a client of Alex’s for a while now and admits he is always working on being “coachable.”

“You should try to be open minded, and self aware in the sessions if you want the most from them,” says Alex.

Dave is a business owner and leads a team himself and asks Alex, “Now that you’ve coached me, how do I coach others?”

“If you are being a great student, you are also learning how to be a great teacher,” said Alex.

The first session is about having fun, creating a comradery, finding our connection and groove, says Alex.

“As a coach, because you can’t make or force people to think a certain way, you have to surrender trying to make people think the way you want them to,” said Alex. “You can’t muscle people to have breakthroughs.”

Dave tells Ellen and Alex that he has begun to form solid relationships with people before he even tries coaching them in any way. He says he gets to know them and what works for them.

“As a coach, I’m just here with the intention for us to arrive at some kind of solution,” said Alex. “And this is also a great model for parenting. An inspirational parent who opens up possibilities and plants seeds that help kids arrive at their own conclusions and find their own answers, is what we strive for.”

This helps kids realize that they are competent, powerful and capable.

“What you have brought to me, is this amazing space for safe energy,” said Ellen.
