Santa Clarita Optimist Foundation Presents Safety Town Scholarships – August 5, 2020

Susan Russell, Executive Director of Safety Town, presents scholarships to David and Adam White, Safety Town “Counselors-in-Training” (CITs). David and Adam White are identical twins who are members of the 2020 Saugus highschool graduating class. They have worked with Safety Town since its founding in 2015, and have embodied what the organization seeks to teach children across the community and so much more. Their hard work has earned each of them a $750 scholarship towards their pursuit of higher education, presented by the Santa Clarita Optimist Foundation and Canyon Country Optimist Club (the operators and sponsors of Safety Town). Susan presents Adam and David their scholarships while they all share what makes Safety Town such an important part of their lives, and lives of the children they educate to be safer.

“Safety Town is a one-week, 3 ½ – hour day, safety education summer program.  Safety awareness is introduced to young children (ages 4½ to 6 years) in an age appropriate, fun, and secure environment.  Safety Town is a child-size city that will be assembled in the school’s multipurpose room, with traffic light, street and stop signs, striped walkways, crosswalks and streets.  Under the guidance of California credentialed teachers, a safety education specialist, trained youth volunteer counselors, and local community safety professionals, 60 or more children will learn and practice essential safety skills they will use in their everyday lives – at home, at school, in the community and in the future.  Through group lessons, guest visits from local community safety professionals, songs, lessons, multimedia, crafts and pedestrian/driver role play, the program teaches children to evaluate “safe” from “unsafe” situations.” Read More on their website by clicking here
