Staying Informed — April 8, 2020

On this episode of the Providence Holy Cross Health Hour with Tom Burton, PT, Tom starts the show by talking about how important it is to stay informed, and how vital correct information is at the moment. Tom talks about how changing our behavior as people and as a population is going to help reduce the amount of Covid-19 cases. Tom also talks about how the curve is just beginning to flatten out, and that less cases are being diagnosed. Tom stresses how our hard work of staying at home and reducing social contact is continuing to help everyone. He continues to state the absolute importance of staying at home, and how if we continue to practice this we can come out on the other side sooner rather than later.

Later in the show, Dr. Byron Patterson, M.D., Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician, Medical Director of Providence Sports Healthcare Medicine, Current Team Physician for the U.S. Men’s Soccer team and U.S. Men’s Track & Field squad, and former Chief Medical Officer for LAFC, joins the show. As an esteemed medical professional that has experience in a variety of fields, Dr. Patterson calls in to the show to talk about the importance of preventative measures that can be taken to stop the spread of Covid-19. Dr. Patterson talks about how he has utilized the tactic of imagining everyone else around him has the virus, and that has helped him police his own behavior better. Using this tactic, he has found that he has been better at practicing social distance and helping to protect everyone else around him too. Dr. Patterson and Tom Burton talk about the extensive impact that Covid-19 has had on the sports world, and how even the highest levels of athletes are having a tough time of sticking to a routine.
