Today on Real Estate and Other Stuff, it is Phil and Taylor discuss home sellers turning to Open Door, firings in the tech industry, and some of the strangest laws in California!

Phil and Taylor open the show by discussing their Valentines Day plans before discussing what the game-worn Kobe Bryant jersey sold for at auction and the world’s largest pizza. Later, they discuss the Chinese spy balloon that was shot down earlier this week. They then discuss the landslide that occured in Saugus and the affects it has on those homeowners whose homes were built as recently as 2019.In the second segment, Phil and Taylor discuss Jason Oppenheim, one of the star’s of Netflix’s Selling Sunset before discussing some of the silliest laws in California. These include pouring salt on a highway in Hermosa Beach, and illegal to walk a camel in Palm Springs.

Phil and Taylor wrap up the show by discussing the non-stop parade of layoffs in silicon valley. Meta cut 11,000 jobs in November, Amazon laid off 18,000 workers in January, followed by Microsoft who let go of 10,000 workers and just a few days later Alphabet (Google) laid off 12,000 people. Since the start of 2021, tech companies have laid off over 240,000 people, begging the question from Phil why it’s happening.

“All of these people said tech is the way to go, and they hired and hired and hired, and then it went in reverse,” Phil said. “So all of those hires in recent years, are out of jobs, and there’s no sign that its going to stop.”
