On this episode of The Senior Hour, Barbara Cochran makes her return to the show with co-host Dr. Thomas Polucki as they discuss the meaning of Thanksgiving.
They being the show by discussing the various resources that seniors in Santa Clarita Valley have if they are without family or food for the holiday including the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center at Bella Vita. Dr. Polucki then discusses what is most meaningful to him and how we can trick our brains into being more grateful and positive subconsciously throughout the day and year rather than just specifically during the holiday season.
Late, Dr. Polucki discusses the importance of managing your dietary restrictions during Thanksgiving. He speaks to the gluttony of the holiday but also references the certain limitation we must put on ourselves when it comes to food sensitivities. Grains are specifically difficult for many seniors to digest and can cause complications not only the evening of consumption but for days after, leading to bloating and other discomfort. He provides tips on how to mitigate these issues.
