Happiness and Health — May 15, 2019

On this episode of The Senior Hour with Dr. Gene Dorio and Barbara Cochran, Kathryn Robinson joins the show to talk about how she makes seniors happy to help them improve their physical health. Kathryn is a Health & Personal Wellness Coach who helps seniors address their emotions as a means of treating physical ailments. Dr. Dorio and Kathryn start by talking about what inspires a person, and how that source of inspiration can change and appear different as we get older. As that energy fades, Kathryn helps people find their passion again. Kathryn talks about how she tries not to tell her clients what to do, and instead tries to reinforce positive change by asking questions that spark a natural shift in the mindset of a person. Barbara and Dr. Dorio share how simple experiences in life, such as watching the sunrise, can also be a catalyst for a positive change in mindset that can help save a person’s life.

Later in the show, Myles McNamara joins the show to talk about how multiple healthcare providers are starting to look into and experiment with covering in-home senior care. In-home care is being recognized as a very effective preventative measure by reducing the amount of severe surgeries, 9-1-1 calls and other large expenses that are generated from crisis situations. Myles and Dr. Dorio address the stress this would place on tax payers, and the choice that would face them if in-home care is proposed as a covered form of healthcare under a healthcare provider such as Medicare. Myles presents examples and information that show how in-hoe care can be cheaper when it does prevent a severe and costly procedure or long-term treatment.

Listen in as Barbara Cochran, Dr. Dorio, Kathryn Robinson and Myles McNamara join the show to talk about happiness and health in seniors, and the potential for in-home care to be covered by healthcare providers.
