The Senior Hour – Palliative Care and Pest Control– May 31st, 2023

Guests: Leah Phillips, Cardon Ellis

In the first half of today’s Senior Hour, hosts Barbara Cochran and Doctor Polucki open up the show with special guest, Leah Phillips. Leah is a Palliative Care Nurse for Providence Holy Cross. She discusses what Palliative Care is, how it differs from home care, and addresses some common misconceptions about the practice as a whole. Her and Dr. Polucki go further in depth with topics such as patient advocacy and even how aromatherapy is being implemented as a practice in many institutions.

In the second half of the show, Barbara welcomes Cardon Ellis of Santa Clarita’s UNIPEST on air. Barbara and Cardon discuss the different creatures in and around SCV, especially raccoons. Barbara provides an anecdote about how she used to be a raccoon owner herself many years ago. Dr. Polucki asks Cardon about UNIPESTS’ model for environmentally friendly treatments as well as the biodiversity in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Finally, Barbara, Dr. Polucki, and Cardon wrap up the show by discussing pesticides, botanical agents, and pyrethroid insecticides.

Listen in as Barbara and Dr. Polucki discuss Palliative Care and Pest Control on this week’s episode of the Senior Hour.
