The Senior Hour – Senior Center Summer and Comfort Keepers – May 17th, 2023

In the first half of today’s Senior Hour, hosts Barbara Cochran and Doctor Polucki bring Kevin MacDonald, CEO of the SCV Senior Center, to discuss some exciting new events scheduled. Some of these events included but are not limited to – Sit and Be Fit, tribute concerts, and film screenings. Kevin also provides information about the “Dial A Ride” service that services seniors who are unable to transport themselves. Dr. Polucki comments how this service makes getting to the Senior Center “no excuse”.

In the second half of the show, Myles McNamara, owner of Comfort Keepers, to discuss his business and how they provide non-medical respite care for senior citizens. His caretakers are responsible for facilitating task such as medicine management, personal hygiene, preparing food, etc. Myles stresses that these services are made to enhance independence, rather than take it away. Dr. Polucki also discusses some preventative care techniques for seniors over the summer, including how important hydration is. The three wrap up the show by talking about how vital long-term care is and the sense of security it provides.
