Big Rig Crash Results In Spill On 5 Freeway

A crash involving a passenger vehicle and a big rig resulted in a spill near the Rye Canyon Road exit of southbound I-5 Freeway Monday.

Reports of a vehicle collision came in around 11:57 a.m. Monday morning. The crash involved a passenger vehicle and a big rig, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs.

It is unknown at this time if any motorists or passengers were injured following the collision.

However, the collision did result in a spill, causing severe traffic in the area.

Around 1:05 p.m. the spill was said to be contained, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

At about 2:30 p.m. CHP issued a SigAlert, alerting the closure of the southbound 5 freeway onramp closed at Rye Canyon Rd. Due to the damage sustained by the big rig’s axle, the cab and it’s trailer were separated to be towed separately.

According to the issued alert from CHP, Santa Clarita motorists can expect a five minute delay on the road.

At 6:04 p.m. the SigAlert was extended for an additional hour, with the projection of traffic returning to normal around 7 p.m.
