Officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) have begun escorting motorists across both sides of the I-5 Freeway through Grapevine Wednesday morning.

UPDATE (11:35 a.m.): CHP officials have begun escorting motorists through the Grapevine on both sides of the I-5 Freeway.
The westbound Highway 138 remains closed at 245th Street West, along with Pine Canyon Road and Three Points, and Three Points at Lake Hughes Road.
Original Post: As of 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, all lanes of the I-5 Freeway have been closed through the Grapevine, according to California Department of Transportation, (CALTRANS) officials.
Southbound traffic is being diverted off at Grapevine Road. The center median Snow Gate is closed at Lake Hughes Road, and northbound traffic is being diverted off at Parker Road in Castaic.

In addition, the westbound connector of Highway 138 to the 5 Freeway is also closed for an unknown duration, CALTRANS officials said.
With the Grapevine closed, motorists have several alternate routes they can take:
Northbound travelers
Take the northbound US-101 to the eastbound State Route 166, then onto the northbound I-5
Southbound travelers
Take the westbound State Route 166 to the southbound US-101
It is unclear how long the 5 Freeway is expected to be closed, CALTRANS said in a Wednesday morning tweet.
