15-Year-Old Santa Clarita Director To Screen Full-Length Feature Film

A freshman high school student from Santa Clarita is set to screen his second full-length feature film for Santa Clarita audiences later this month.

Fifteen-year-old Griffin Loch is set to host a screening for his feature film, “The Adventure of T.P. Man and Flusher,” at the SCVi Charter School Shakespeare Theater on Friday, Feb. 22, as well as The Main in Newhall on March 9.

The film is based on a story that Loch’s grandfather told him about when he and his friends were young, according to Loch.

“They were extremely helpful throughout the entire process,” Loch said. “He would tell me stories when I was little.”

Loch, who started making short films when he was only five years old, began working on the movie in eighth grade.

“We tackled the social conflict of teen suicide and depression,” Loch said. “(We are) showing that teens can do amazing things, showing that there’s help out there and that there’s hope.”

While filming his second feature, Loch worked with a cast of about 14 people, with some being as young as 13 years old. And while approximately 15 percent of the cast were friends, the rest were actors cast after auditions, Loch said.

“This is really something that shows that dreams are possible,” said Loch, who wrote, directed, produced and edited the film. “I think it’s definitely a great one for parents to take their teens to.”

Throughout the process, Loch was assisted by his parents, who both have experience in the film industry. Loch’s father is an editor for television, and his mother used to work in production design.

“Both my parents help me out a lot,” Loch said. “My mom is always there, so I run stories past her.”

The Adventures of T.P. Man and Flusher will be screened at the SCVi Charter School Shakespeare Theater on Friday, Feb. 22, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The film will also screen at The Main in Newhall on March 9 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
