2019 KHTS Sacramento Road Trip Comes To An End With Senator Scott Wilk

The 14th Annual KHTS Sacramento Road Trip has come to an end after over 100 Santa Clarita residents joined Senator Scott Wilk in the state’s capital to advocate for the community.

Wilk was joined by Assemblywoman Christy Smith and Assemblyman Tom Lackey, who discussed a variety of topics, including the California budget and education.

“This year was one of the best I have been a part of in all of my time participating,” said Wilk. “The speakers were great, and there was a lot of good feedback.”

The Sacramento trip is sponsored by Wilk’s office, which plays a crucial role in organizing the program.

Other community partners who sponsored the trip included Southern California Edison, SCV Water, California Credit Union, Jersey Mikes and Feathers.

“Each year’s trip gets better and better. Senator Wilk and his staff were stellar in arranging powerful speakers who shared a ton of new information. Every year we take away so many nuggets of information that impact our valley,” said Carl Goldman, owner of KHTS Radio.

The nearly 110 Santa Clarita leaders on the trip represented a wide variety of sectors in the valley, including education, small business, water, real estate and nonprofits.

The group was also joined by six local students, sponsored by California Credit Union, from Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi), Saugus High School, Bowman High School and Valencia High School.

“It was such an incredible experience,” said Amber Raskin, founder of iLEAD Schools. “The students from SCVi were so engaged in the whole process, I am happy to hand off the reigns to the next generation.”

The road trip idea started with a conversation between then California State Assemblyman Keith Richman and Goldman at a charity event in 2005. Richman shared his belief that most of the community’s leaders at the time didn’t have an understanding of the challenges state legislative officials faced in Sacramento, according to Goldman.

The two thought it would be a great idea to invite a number of community leaders to visit Sacramento and learn about these challenges. Thus, the KHTS Sacramento Road Trip was created.

The trip has become an annual tradition, with 120 community leaders traveling by bus for two days of advocacy on behalf of Santa Clarita in Sacramento.

Now that the Santa Clarita Valley road trip is at a close, Goldman is looking forward to May for the inaugural Antelope Valley KHTS Sacramento Road Trip.

“I know we made a strong impression on the leadership we met and I continue to hear nothing but positive feedback from the 115 Santa Clarita leaders who joined us,” he said. “We are now preparing for our 1st annual Antelope Valley Sacramento trip for May 6 and 7, 2019.”
