The 2019 Stevenson Ranch firework show has been canceled due to a lack of funding, officials said Friday.
The Stevenson Ranch Homeowners’ Association had created an online fundraiser giving residents and firework enthusiast an opportunity to donate funds in efforts to reach the $40,000 needed to fund the show, however, the goal was not reached, said Julie Sherrod, community manager with the HOA.
“The funds that were raised will be put in a trust and put toward the 2020 firework show,” Sherrod said.

After the Fourth of July passes the online fundraiser is scheduled to be reopened for donations toward the 2020 show, according to HOA officials.
The actual fireworks cost approximately $32,000 and the other $8,000 is used for temporary restrooms, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff personnel, cleanup crews, trash collection bins and live music, according to officials.
The firework show cannot be funded by the HOA fees, according to officials.
“Per the by-laws of our association all dues collected from the homeowners in Stevenson Ranch must be held and used for maintaining our community,” HOA officials said. “This would include landscaping, the fountain, fences and insurance. The by-laws also state the dues collected cannot be used for entertainment.”
In the past, the firework show was funded by T-Mobile leasing property from the homeowner’s association for $25,000 a year. T-Mobile has canceled its lease. In addition, the event was partially funded by donations from the film industry for shoots that took place in Stevenson Ranch, but these donations have ended, according to officials.
Although all Fourth of July events are canceled for the Dr. Richard Rioux Memorial Park, the park is scheduled to remain open for residents who want to utilize the facility during the day, according to officials.

Not everyone is sad about not having fireworks this year.
I, for one, am grateful I don’t have to sedate my dog this year to dimish her overpowering fear of all the noise.
I am also grateful for all the military personnel who may be triggered by the sounds of “bombs bursting in air” that takes them right back to the scariest time in their lives.
I’m looking forward to a peaceful celebration of the country’s birthday.
Well, it’s not as if it’s unlikely that many, many neighbors won’t be setting off their own (often very loud and large) fireworks, at unexpected times (unlike a scheduled show).
I’m hoping the night will be quiet, but after 20 years here I sincerely doubt it.
