21-Year-Old Victim Killed In Canyon Country DUI Crash Identified

A 21-year-old woman who was killed in a Canyon Country DUI crash on Sand Canyon Road Monday night has been identified by officials.

Meaghan York, of Canyon Country, was killed in the crash after her vehicle was struck by another driver who was allegedly under the influence, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Around 11:30 p.m. Monday, first responders received a call for a crash involving three vehicles — a pickup truck and two other vehicles at the intersection of Soledad Canyon and Sand Canyon Roads.

Upon arrival, officers located a Ford Ranger pickup, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Prius which had been involved in the collision.

Officials say the driver of the Ford Ranger pickup truck, 20-year-old Joshua Austin of Santa Clarita, was traveling westbound on Soledad Canyon Road when he allegedly failed to stop at a red light and collided with the driver’s side of York’s Hyundai Elantra.

“The driver of the Hyundai Elantra was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Sheriff’s officials.

The driver of the third vehicle, a Toyota Prius, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.

Austin was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Office detectives are in the early stages of the investigation; however, speed and driving under the influence of alcohol are being examined as possible factors that led to the fatal Canyon Country crash.

  4. Prayers to her family and friends. Another innocent life taken because of someone’s selfishness behavior. Ms. York’s life was just beginning. Stop drinking and driving.
May God give her family and friends the strength to endure her loss and pain which never goes away. RIP
    Beautiful Soul.

  5. God give her family and friends extra strength to endure their loss of Meaghan. Her life was just beginning. RIP young lady. Strength and Prayers to the young man whose life will forever be changed.
Stop drinking and driving! It is not your right.
Lots of lives have been forever changed by your actions of stupidity. Why?

  6. My heart aches for Meaghan and her family:( I can not imagine this kind of pain. Our daughter, who’s about the same age, did not come home Monday night–she also drives a Hyundai. After receiving a Nixle notification of a fatal accident involving a Hyundai, I attempted to but failed to get a hold of our daughter for hours. So I drove over to the Sheriff’s office and gave my daughter’s name, asking if she was the one involved in this fatal accident. I was told that it was not her. This experience was but a mere DROP of the anguish that this family is experiencing right now. They need support and much prayer. Praying right now…

  7. Hope he rots in prison.
