Aronson is sponsoring the Celebrity Waiter Dinner this year — which is one of the center’s biggest fundraisers — offers free hearing screenings at the center and is planning to possibly give a series of educational talks there.
“I’d like to give educational talks over there so people understand what they’re reading, they understand about the ads that they’re reading in the paper,” Aronson said during a recent appearance on “The Senior Hour” on KHTS AM-1220.

Aronson went on to note that there’s been a rise in confusion surrounding hearing loss solutions, which she hopes to address during her talks.
“There’s more and more things around now to confuse everybody on what quality hearing is all about,” she said. “It’s more being sold out there like a commodity, and people are going to be confused.”
One potentially confusing development in the hearing aid world that Aronson is still looking into is the recent announcement that SCAN Health Plan has contracted to have their own hearing aids.
“I don’t understand it yet,” she said. “They’re advertising that people who have SCAN can get hearing aids for $699 or $999 each, and it has all these features in it. So I’m trying to investigate this more and more.”
Another possible talk for Aronson’s educational talks could be on a proposed law to “lock” hearing aid software, meaning they can only be programmed and maintained by the original location that sold it.
“It makes people have to go back to where they got the hearing aid from, which I don’t think is legal,” she said. “What if … you don’t like that place, or you want to go somewhere else and get it fixed? Or you’re in another state and you’re not even near that place? Nobody has access to that (hearing aid’s) program.”
By addressing these types of topics, Aronson hopes to better educate the SCV community on hearing loss and potential solutions.
“My big thing is educating people,” she said.
