Agua Dulce Fire Station 81 Firefighter Specialist Tory Carlon Honored At Memorial Service

Family, friends and firemen personnel from around Los Angeles County came together Thursday to honor and celebrate the life of firefighter specialist Tory Carlon, who was killed at Fire Station 81 in Agua Dulce.

The service was live-streamed on the L.A. County Fire Department’s (LACoFD) Facebook page, with thousands tuning in to watch several speeches by colleagues, family and friends.

The service began with an honorary bagpipe and drum performance by L.A. County Fire Department personnel as family members and friends entered the Forum in Inglewood where the ceremony took place.

Several speeches were made by those associated with the LACoFD, including L.A. County Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby. L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger was also in attendance.

“Tory, like many firefighters, shared the same commitment of putting others before himself,” Osby said. “This loss is extremely heartbreaking and tough. But also what remains in the hearts of many of us, is Tory.”

Following the remarks made by firefighter personnel, those closest to Carlon came onstage to remember and honor him.

A long-time friend and L.A. County fire captain Chris Lujano commented on the type of man Carlon was: “He was a man of principle. He wanted to do things the right way.” Lujano and Carlon had gone through the firemen training together and were best men at each other’s weddings.

Carlon’s oldest daughter Joslyn also delivered a speech, supported by her mother and two sisters.

“My daddy raised his girls well,” she said. “He taught us right from wrong and was such an amazing role model to have as a child. I hope I can carry that on to my younger sister, Brie, and share stories to her about him, because unfortunately, she only got six years with my daddy. And I also hope to carry it on to my own kids one day as well.”

Dozens of firefighters attended the graduation ceremony of Joslyn Carlon from Saugus High School just three days after Carlon’s death.

Carlon’s family was presented a 13 folded flag by Osby, with each fold holding a significant meaning and often given to families of fallen soldiers.

A slideshow of pictures was also presented during the service, showcasing Carlon’s life as a son, friend and father.

Carlon was shot and killed at Fire Station 81 in Agua Dulce on June 1 by an off-duty fire engineer who worked at the same station. Hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil for Carlon in Acton on the night of the shooting.

On Tuesday, a private flag ceremony was held for Carlon at Fire Station 131 in Palmdale.

The 20-year fire department veteran is survived by his wife Heidi and their three daughters. A GoFundMe page to support the Carlon family had raised more than $286,000.

  1. “firemen personnel????”

It is 2021, there are more than just men in the fire department.

KHTS has been outright disgraceful this whole time since the shooting. If someone else loses a loved one, please be respectful of their tragedy. Or at the very least, follow the proper protocols for identification.

RIP Tory, you will be missed.

  2. Is firewomen personnel PC enough for you?
