“Today we were getting together to call parents and ask to see if there was anyway they can assist with funding,” said Fronti, “However as we sat down we realized what they really need, is to know what’s going on.”

AEALAS board members gave insight to how parental involvement, helps faculty to succeed in their mission to provide help supplement state funds alternative education to ‘different learners’.

Parents at AEALAS typically give support by either giving a monthly donation, making a one time pledge, or volunteering time and equipment to offset staff and maintenance costs.

Fronti explained with the addition of the Public Outreach Committee, AEALAS board members will be able to better educated parents and community.

The author wrote: – “Some programs such as STEM, art, music and special educational courses are omitted at public schools usually due to funding or staffing issues.” – This is not exactly truthful. A glaring misrepresentation is that special education programs are being omitted from public schools. The facts are that if you have a child that would benefit from special education resources, our public schools in Santa Clarita are the BEST and most appropriate location for most of these these services. Families move TO this valley to qualify for services through our public schools.
With regards to music, SUSD, and NSD in particular, provide music programs throughout the year. Could they be more robust and more frequent? Yes, however these programs do exist. At the Jr. and Sr. High School level most of our Hart District schools provide band programs that provide an excellent experience for their students. STEM programs at the high school level are numerous including an engineering tract using Project Lead the Way, a Nationally recognized program.
The author also wrote – “(programs) are provided because of parents and volunteers willing to give time and attention to facilitate programming.” Parent involvement at our public elementary, jr. and senior high schools is alive and well. To suggest otherwise is to ignore your peers in this valley.
