Black Lives Matter Protests Move To East Side Of Santa Clarita

The Black Lives Matter protests that have been held for over a week in Santa Clarita moved to Canyon Country Monday in an effort to reach residents on the east side of the valley.

For over a week, demonstrators have lined the sidewalks and street corners of Valencia protesting the death of George Floyd, calling for justice and reforms.

On Monday, the protests moved to the east end of the Santa Clarita Valley, with about two dozen protesters gathering on the corner of Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road to continue demonstrations that drew hundreds on the previous Thursday.

Demar Ruiz called out on a megaphone encouraging drivers to honk in support of the protesters and starting the chant “Black Lives Matter” with the group of demonstrators.

“We are here protesting for change, it’s Generation Z. We’re here to spread the message for justice,” Ruiz said.

The demonstrator wanted “both sides to understand, there is ignorance on both ends,” and urges those to listen to opposing views.

“We are here to create peace and to learn to love each other,” Ruiz said.

The local organizer chose the corner in Canyon Country to reach a separate, more diverse audience, he said, with other demonstrations on the westside of town.

“This is a more diverse area,” Ruiz said. “Not everyone has social media, so they don’t know what is happening on the other side.”

The Canyon Country demonstration was much smaller than Thursday, but Ruiz said this movement is ongoing in Santa Clarita, and organizers have no plans on stopping the protests.

“It is a movement that is going across the world right now,” Ruiz said. “Most of the time, people see this as a temporary thing. We are going to protest for a week and then forget about it, but this is going to go on for the rest of our lives, and we won’t stop until change happens.”

  1. Not everyone has social media he says. Yes and those that do are more brainwashed than the ones just watching the leftist news. Please hear these videos out and pass them on.

    • Thanks for spreading the word. Gets to the core issues. Every race has underprivileged, broken homes. EVERY RACE. The BLM is hurting African Americans more than helping.

  2. They got some big GUNS on the Eastside those youngsters better be very careful who they scream their propaganda at there! Just sayin you know!

  3. I love these pop-up ads on the bottom so much I just had to let somebody know how good it feels to cover Will’s posts with them. I couldn’t tell you who they are or what they are about but they are so perfectly placed what’s not to like? Well done, Carl. Thank you.

  4. Ruiz said. “Not everyone around here has social media, so they don’t know what is happening on the other side.”

The other side? The last time I checked Canyon Country is about 5 minutes down the same street.

  5. Maybe Mr. Ruiz cares to tell us EXACTLY what change he is looking for, what shape it will take, and what timeline will he consider acceptable. Orange Man Bad doesnt count.

  6. Where do you think Canyon Country is?? We actually have electricity and running water!!
That’s how you unite ppl? Nope!!

  7. You kids have no idea how hard it is yet. Get out in the real world and get a job, start paying your own bills and work towards a house of your own then tell me how easy it is for any race. #alllivesmatter

  8. Social media is a joke, plain and simple. Our youth have been destroyed by social media, with their heads stuck in their phones 24/7 believing anything that comes across the screen or whatever is “trendy”.

    What a disgrace.

  9. “[They both were] found to be in possession of fentanyl, narcotics paraphernalia, and was additionally charged with carrying a concealed weapon”.
And you want to defund police, good luck with that.
No civil minded, working class person will buy into that.
Change is the one good constant in our lives but, not at the expense of our lives.

  10. We don’t know what’s happening on the other side? Not everyone here has social media? You’re where the actual money is in SCV on “this side”! LMAO Ignorance at its finest!

  11. I attempted to document the Black Lives Matter protests in June 4-5th

  12. Have to wonder how many of these deprived of socializing, bored teeny-boppers would be out there were the malls , Magic Mountain etc. …open.

  13. Going through these comments is so laughable. If a couple of kids protesting on the streets got you that bothered, boy do I got news for you.

  14. This fad came and went quickly. On to the next trendy bandwagon. SCV residents can be very fake and shallow.

  15. Thank you very much B L M And you better respect that thank you to all the marchers the protests the peaceful people and for those that don’t care you have a higher up to answer to .
