Blow Torch-Wielding Suspect Charged With Assault After Burning Victim During Argument

A Newhall man is facing assault with a deadly weapon charges after allegedly burning an individual with a blow torch after a verbal argument Monday, officials said.

On Monday around 7:40 p.m., deputies responded to the 25000 block of Walnut Street regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The suspect reportedly got into a verbal argument with his mother, Miller said.

When another family member, a male adult in his late 50s, told him to stop talking that way to his mother, the suspect allegedly picked up a blow torch and burned the victim on his neck, Miller said.

Deputies arrested Carlos Martinez, 23, of Newhall, on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Martinez was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
