James Webb, William S. Hart Union High School District School Board member announced his resignation Wednesday, stating “personal responsibilities.”
The William S. Hart school district covers all Junior High and High Schools in the Santa Clarita Valley with the exception of Castaic Middle School.
Webb has decided to step down to ensure that he has more time to spend with his family. Family obligations, including caring for elderly parents, have become a priority for him. Webb believes that by stepping down, he will also have the opportunity to pursue career options closer to home that
do not require frequent travel to Sacramento.
“This has been a difficult decision given my ongoing commitment to the important work that is happening in the Hart District. I’m proud of the Hart District and what we’ve accomplished together. It’s tough to leave, but I’m confident my colleagues on the board will keep leading with One
Hart, focused on ensuring that our students are “Opportunity Ready,” said Webb.
During his tenure on the board, James Webb played a significant role in making important decisions and implementing initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education in the district. Mr. Webb’s leadership through the pandemic was instrumental in ensuring that the district continued to
provide a high-quality education to students during a challenging time.
Additionally, Webb was an essential part of the implementation of the district’s strategic plan, which has resulted in significant progress in the areas of student achievement, staff development, and community engagement.
“During his time on the board, James has been a strong advocate for the needs of all students,” said Governing Board President Bob Jensen. “With his background in education and experience as a current Hart District parent, his perspective has been a valuable addition. We thank him for his
contributions to our district and wish him the best.”
Webb has assured the board of his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and has offered his assistance in any way possible to ensure that the board continues to function effectively in his absence.
According to Education Code Section 5091 (a), the Hart School District Governing Board has 60 days from the date of the vacancy or the filing of the member’s deferred resignation to either order an election or make aprovisional appointment.
Editor’s Note: This is a breaking story. We will have more details and community reaction as they develop.

Such a shame. James Webb is a phenomenal and fair board member, he will be missed. Aside from personal responsibility, The open attacks against the LGBTQ+ community during Hart meeting public comment by community members is something I do not believe is humane to subject any attendee too. These meetings have become a circus, an outlet for far right extremists to spew their hatred against specific groups of people. Hart needs to do something about this- as people do not want to attend board meetings and listen to such rhetoric, every single time. Our schools must function with inclusivity, by law. Remember that. Just because the unhinged individuals attend these meetings, and speak at every public comment, does not mean they are the majority.
Totally, 100% agree
So, another sudden resignation of an education administrator? First the CUSD Super, now this guy. No factual, or even logical, explanation. Shhh. Shhh.
SPRING is in the AIR, and SCANDAL came with it! Are these cases related? Do they know each other? We’re students involved? Are they being blackmailed by promiscuous soccer moms? We’re they hanging out together at Bowling Bill’s house Friday nights?
Jim, you’re an idiot. James Webb is a person of the highest integrity and even suggesting in a joking way (at least I hope that you’er joking) is potentially harmful to his stellar record of service to education in this community. Please think before you type next time.
A school board member is not an administrator, Jim.
