Burglary Suspects Caught After Being Arrested By Burbank PD

Two wanted burglary suspects who stole a diamond ring earlier this month, were located after being arrested by Burbank police officers on an unrelated crime.

Around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 12, deputies received reports of a theft at Kohl’s on the 19300 block of Golden Valley Road, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The suspects stole a diamond ring worth approximately $1,900,” Arriaga said. “They fled prior to deputy arrival in a silver Lexus and remained outstanding.”

On Tuesday, deputies with the Juvenile Intervention Team (JTeam) learned of the whereabouts of the suspects, due to them getting arrested by officers with the Burbank Police Department for a separate unrelated incident, according to Arriaga.

Tyler Shaffer, 24, from Sylmar was taken into custody by deputies at the Burbank Police Station.

Nelly Chavez, 34, was arrested at her residence on the 14500 block of Polk Street in Sylmar after she was released from Burbank Police Department custody.

Both suspects were booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail for felony burglary and remain in custody as of Wednesday, according to Arriaga.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
