California cannabis regulations were approved by a state agency Wednesday, legalizing marijuana delivery in Santa Clarita despite the local ordinance.

The Bureau of Cannabis Control (BCC) announced Wednesday that marijuana delivery would now be legal across the state, including local cities where pot is prohibited.
“This deeply saddens me,” said Councilmember Bob Kellar. “The City passed an ordinance to protect our residents, the state should respect that.”
After the passage of Proposition 64, the Santa Clarita City Council approved an ordinance to prohibit the sale, cultivation, manufacturing, testing and delivery of cannabis or products containing the substance within City limits.

These new regulations, which go into effect immediately, supersedes this local ordinance, allowing cannabis delivery throughout the valley.
“Local jurisdictions, per law, cannot ban delivery,” said Alex Traverso, spokesperson for the state cannabis agency.
In a statement, Traverso said “the public spoke loud and clear in favor of statewide delivery,” citing several public hearings on the issue.
Santa Clarita City staff are “actively reviewing” the new regulations and their impact on the ordinance.
“We are in the process of reviewing the decision,” said Daniel Rivas, community preservation manager.
The proposal is subject to a legal challenge, but is currently in effect.

Why is SCV so ridiculous in not allowing LEGAL Cannabis suppliers within the city? Fist of all the city would reap tremendous profits from sales which are being made “illegally” within the city anyways. Second do ignorant people not realize that the people selling it “illegally” have no sense of responsibility and sell to children? Are people too blind to see that when you buy anything from someone operating illegally that opens the door to more and worse illegal items? Like for instance when your illegal dealer doesn’t LEGAL marijuana and tries to sell you CRACK INSTEAD. FYI Santa Clarita.the LEGAL marijuana storefronts DO NOT run out NOR do they sell CRACK. WAKE UP
SCV needs to come out of the dark ages. I understand them not wanting store fronts. However, marijuana delivery does not affect the city. I’m sure many of our retired and disabled residents rely on delivery services. I personally have partaken in the delivery services. It is very discreet, they drive normal unmarked cars and hand you a paper bag. For all my neighbors and know, they are delivering food. There is no reason to infringe on the rights of residents of Santa Clarita.
