On Friday the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced that California residents 70 years of age and older can renew their driver’s licenses online or by mail. 

Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed legislation that expanded this temporary rule through December 21, 2022 for senior drivers. 

Residents can renew their licenses here, allowing them to take care of DMV tasks without having an office visit. 

Other online services are available as well for customers applying for a real ID for the first time. The application process can be started online, but a field visit is required to take a photo and finalize the process.  

The DMV recommends that customers use their online services that can be found on their website to complete transactions, including eligible driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals.
