Campers, Dogs Rescued Near Grapevine After Being Stranded For Two Weeks

Two campers and their dogs were rescued by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials near the Grapevine Wednesday after being stranded for 14 days, officials said.

LASD Air Rescue helicopter personnel used tactical medics to rescue the campers, who had run out of food and water on Alamo Mountain just north of Castaic, according to the LASD Special Enforcement Bureau.

A man and a woman, along with their two dogs, were hoisted out and flown to safety, according to officials.

The campers were able to hike to a place where they could find cell phone service and called for help.

Sheriff’s officials say it’s important to tell someone where you’ll be hiking and make sure you have the necessary water and first aid supplies.

Officials say not to ignore signs of dehydration such as headache, nausea, dizziness and loss of appetite. If these symptoms occur, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Hikers are also encouraged to make sure cell phones have a full battery charge.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
