Deputies arrested a Valencia woman Thursday after she allegedly stole over $1,000 in merchandise from the Home Depot store in Canyon Country, officials said.
Around 12:15 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a reported burglary at the Home Depot on the 20600 block of Golden Triangle Road, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“The suspect went into the home improvement store and filled a shopping cart up with merchandise — over $1,000 worth — and walked past the cash registers without making any attempt to pay,” Miller said.
The suspect was detained by loss prevention personnel until deputies arrived.
Nadezda Chelpanova, 35, of Valencia, was arrested on felony burglary charges, Miller said.
Chelpanova was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $20,000, according to arrest records.

Glad to see there were consequences for this thief. My nephew in MO was fired after 10 years of working at Home Depot for trying to stop a thief walking out the door.
