Castaic Union School District Awarded Grant For Career Education, Chromebooks

The Castaic Union School District was awarded a grant by the Castaic Education Foundation in an effort to give students educational opportunities, officials said.

During a meeting in January, the Board of Directors of the Castaic Education Foundation (CEF) announced the recipients for the 2019 teacher grants, according to officials.

Seven grants, totaling $21,784.46 were awarded to support the 21st century learning taking place in the district’s classrooms, according to a news release.

“The Castaic Education Foundation is excited to award grants this school year that will provide enrichment opportunities across all grade levels, including preschool,” said Castaic Education Foundation Chairperson Julia Phippen. “Grants for career education, outdoor learning, writing, socialization programs and technology will allow teachers to support the needs and interests of our students.”

The grant awardees include: Pathways to the Future: Career Education for Culinary, Dental and Sports Medicine at Castaic Middle School.

The district is set to expand its program “Outdoor learning is Fun,” a STEAM preschool education program at Castaic Middle School, as well as develop a Writer’s Workshop Model at Northlake Hills Elementary School.

Other additions also include 24 Chromebooks for the Special Education Department at Castaic Middle School, whiteboard tables at Northlake Hills Elementary School, bouncy bands at Live Oak Elementary School, and lunch bunch games that foster socialization skills at Live Oak Elementary School.

“I am immensely excited to see all of the cad winning projects come to life in the classroom,” said Castaic Superintendent Steven Doyle. “Our partnership with the Castaic Education Foundation allows our teachers to create educational and socialization opportunities that benefit all the students of Castaic Union School District.”

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
