City Council Awards Hart High School Girls Soccer CIF Champions

On Tuesday, the Santa Clarita City Council recognized the Hart High School girl’s soccer team who have become the 2023 CIF State Champions.

Earlier this month, Hart High’s girls soccer team topped off their season with one last win, taking home the league, CIF and SoCal Regional championships.

Hart’s CIF 4-2 victory over the San Marcos Knights was headed by coach Brett Croft and athletes selected for the 2023 All-CIF team which included Briley Phelps, Ariana Salvador, Alexis Nguyen and Macey Edmann.

Phelps was named Division 2 Player of the year and both she and Nguyen scored most of the goals while Edemann worked defense. Salvador shined as the junior midfielder.

Members of the city council recognized the team’s impressive season on Tuesday at the regular city council meeting, inviting the team to come up and accept an official city recognition.

“They absolutely dominated their CIF division while outscoring all their opponents, 20 goals to one throughout their entire season,” said City Councilmember Cameron Smyth.

During the season, the team had 19 wins, three losses and four ties.

“These girls deserve all the credit,” said coach Croft. “They earned it.”

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
