City Receives Achievement Award For Annual Road Rehab Program

The City of Santa Clarita has been recognized by the Construction Management Association of America’s (CMAA) Southern California chapter with a 2019 Project Achievement Award for the City’s 2017-18 road rehab program.

The City received its award at the organization’s 27th Annual Awards Gala on May 15, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach.

The City of Santa Clarita spends approximately $11 million each year on its Overlay and Slurry Seal road preservation project, which improves City roadways and extends their life.

Slurry seal is a pavement preservation treatment that involves a coating of finely crushed aggregate, asphalt and water applied to roads, while overlay is a rehabilitation treatment that first grinds up the old asphalt before the coating is used.

The Overlay and Slurry Seal project typically takes place on arterial and neighborhood roads during the summer months. Santa Clarita roads identified for the project in 2019 are set to be announced when project details are finalized.
