City’s Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Available For Review

The City of Santa Clarita’s 2021 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) draft has entered the next phase of it’s approval and adoption, now being available for residents to review.

Public opinion has played a large role in the formation of the city’s plan, with an online survey having been released in an effort to gain insight and feedback from residents on how to reduce potential impacts of natural and man-made disasters.

The responses were used to develop the 2021 LHMP, which identifies potential hazards and ways Santa Clarita can reduce damages to life or property.

The Disaster Mitigation Act requires all local agencies to have a Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan for pre and post-disaster federal funding.

The draft update has been sent to the California Governor’s office of Emergency Services as well, and if approved is expected to be submitted to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and presented to the Santa Clarita City Council for adoption.

The draft can be reviewed here and is available for public review and comment until Thursday April 22, 2021. To submit comments on the draft, email emergencymanagement@santa-clarita.com.
