UDPATE: Saugus Assault With Deadly Weapon Suspect In Custody, Taken To Hospital

UPDATE: The suspect is now in custody and has been transported to the hospital to be evaluated, according to officials on scene.

Deputies conducted a search for a known suspect after he allegedly fled from officials and threatened a person with a knife Wednesday in Saugus, officials said.

Around 2 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department was at the scene of a medical emergency on the 28000 block of Timothy Drive in Saugus when the patient fled from responding officials, said Joey Napoli, a spokesperson for the department.

“The patient did run from firefighters through backyards,” he said.

Deputies were requested for the man, now considered a suspect, and while they were responding, he was reported as a possible burglar with a weapon by residents near Romar Lane and Rodgers Drive, said Lt. Leo Bauer with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“He was running through backyards and confronted one of the neighbors with a knife,” Bauer said.

Deputies had the area of Rodgers Drive, Romar Lane and surrounding streets shut down while they looked for the suspect.

“The suspect somehow got out of the containment,” Bauer said.

Although deputies detained someone, it was not the suspect, and they were later released, Bauer said.

Sheriff’s officials were back in Saugus searching for the alleged suspect around 4 p.m. after receiving a tip that he still may be in the general area, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
