Dodgers Rank First In Power Rankings Following Padres Sweep

The Dodgers swept past the Padres in their weekend series to propel Los Angeles into first place in the recent MLB power rankings.

The last time the Dodgers were atop of the ranking was in the May 31st edition of the list.

For the entirety of the season, it had seemed that the New York Yankees would run away in first for the rest of the season, however, following New York’s poor run of form as of late, it has allowed Los Angeles to take control of the number one spot from the Bronx Bombers.

Since the start of July, the Dodgers have gone an outstanding 28-5 and have yet to be beaten in the month of August and currently hold a 75-33 record.

The recent streak now makes Los Angeles the favorite to lift the Commissioner’s Trophy with a 3.7-1 odds of winning the World Series, according to DraftKings.

The Dodgers have also been able to lead the league in earned runs averaged by nearly half a run less than the second place team in ERA, the Astros.

The biggest jump in the power rankings came from a National League (NL) rival to the Dodgers. The St. Louis Cardinals, who have haunted Los Angeles in the postseason for many years, jumped from the No. 13 into No. 7 and have won their last seven games, which launched the Cardinals up six spots.

The Cardinals are riding high behind Paul Goldschmidt, who currently ranks first in the NL MVP rankings.

The Dodgers swept the Giants and the Padres in back-to-back series and are currently pulling away with the NL West division title at 15.5 games ahead of the second place Padres.

At the bottom-end of the NL West, the Arizona Diamondbacks, dropped the most by any team in the rankings from No. 22 to No. 25.

The Dodgers have an off day Monday before beginning a two-game series with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium with Julio Urias on the mound facing Twins starter Joe Ryan beginning at 7:10 p.m. PDT.
