Dodgers Split Series With Philadelphia To Go 4-3 On Road Trip

The Dodgers dropped another one run game to the Phillies in Thursday’s matinee, 7-6, to complete their seven game road trip. They head back to Dodger Stadium for a five game homestand starting with the Miami Marlins tomorrow and a midweek Freeway Series with the Angels.

It was Caleb Ferguson and Dylan Floro’s turn for a relief outing breakdowns. In his first action since June 26th, Ferguson couldn’t record an out in the seventh inning to halt a Phillies rally. Then Floro came in with issues of his own, and the two combined to give up three important runs after beginning the inning with a 5-3 lead. Joe Kelly was next up and not much better, allowing another run (which would end up being the game deciding score).

Alex Verdugo’s solo shot in the top of the ninth would get one back, but the Phillies hung on to close it out, 7-6.

Kike Hernandez had a career game in the loss for Los Angeles, going 4-for-4 with two homers, two runs and four RBI. He hit his 15 and 16th home runs of the season, and he’s now on pace to break his career high 21 home runs in a season that he hit in 2018.

Middle relief continues to be the biggest concern for the Dodgers (64-35), despite owning the best record in the National League. Though there’s nothing like a weekend series at home against the worst team in the National League to wash some of that stink away.

First pitch for Friday’s game against the Marlins is at 7:10 with Cy Young hopeful Hyun-Jin Ryu (10-2, 1-78 ERA) starting for L.A.
