Drunk Driver Arrested After Injuring Pedestrian In Newhall

A man putting air into his tires was injured after a drunk driver hit his car in Newhall Wednesday night.

Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, deputies responded to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian at the Chevron Gas Station on the 20500 block of Newhall Avenue, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“A male in a white Ford F150 backed up into a man who was putting air in the vehicle’s tire, causing the victim’s vehicle to move and hit the victim,” Arriaga said.

The victim sustained injury and was transported to a local hospital, according to officials.

“The suspect displayed signs and symptoms similar to someone under the influence of alcohol,” Arriaga said. “Field sobriety tests were performed which confirmed the suspect was under the influence of alcohol.”

Andres Martinez, 32, from Canyon Country, was arrested for felony DUI with injury, Arriaga added.

Martinez was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and remains in custody as of Thursday morning, according to Arriaga.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
