Dry Windy Conditions In Weekend Santa Clarita Weather Forecast

Warmer temperatures and Santa Ana wind conditions are in the Santa Clarita weather forecast during the weekend resulting in elevated fire danger.

Starting Saturday temperatures are predicted to be in the upper 80s, said David Gomberg, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

“Temperatures will peak Monday with temperatures close to 90 degrees,” Gomberg said.

Winds are also expected to increase Saturday into Sunday, according to officials.

“We do expect some Santa Ana winds to develop late Saturday into early Sunday before tapering off later in the day,” Gomberg said.

Saturday into Sunday northeast wind gusts are expected to peak around 35 to 40 mph, according to Gomberg.

Humidity levels are also expected to dip down into the single digits.

With the mixture of warm and dry conditions and gusty Santa Ana winds, elevated fire danger is expected for the Santa Clarita Valley, according to Gomberg.

However, as of Friday, the criteria to issue a red flag alert are not expected to be met, according to officials.
In order for a Red Flag warning to be issued, one of three different criteria have to be met which include:
The relative humidity is 15 percent or less with sustained winds 25 mph or greater or frequent gusts of 35 mph or greater in a duration of six hours or more.
The second criteria is when relative humidity is 10 percent or less with either sustained winds at 15 mph or greater or frequent gusts of 25 mph or greater in a duration of six hours or more.
Lastly, if there is widespread and/or significant dry lightning, according to NWS officials.

Cooler temperatures are set to return by Thursday of next week.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
