Extra Extra! Newsies Encore Showing At Canyon Theatre Guild

The Canyon Theatre Guild is set to hold their last encore performance of Disney’s musical Newsies on Sunday, thanks to popular demand.

The Canyon Theatre Guild is bringing Disney’s “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” to the stage and has added an encore performance for this Sunday at 2 p.m.

“Rousing songs by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, high-energy dance numbers, an appealing cast and an uplifting story make this reconceived version of the Christian Bale movie one of Disney Theatrical’s most entertaining new properties in years,” said The Hollywood Reporter.

After its first debut earlier in March, Newsies has had a positive response in Santa Clarita from all ages, according to officials.

The musical is set in 1899 New York City and tells the story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band called “Newsies.”

When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboy’s expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair condition and fight for what’s right.

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies features the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day” and “Santa Fe.”

Tickets are now available to the general public and not recommended for young children, adults are $23 and Juniors and Seniors are $19.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
