Father Arrested On Felony Assault After Throwing Bicycle Through Glass Door, Injuring Son

A Canyon Country father was arrested on felony assault Thursday after he allegedly threw a bicycle through a glass door and injured his son during an argument.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a residence on the 28900 block of Silver Saddle Circle in Canyon Country regarding a family disturbance call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned during a verbal argument, the suspect, who was standing outside the residence, took a bicycle and threw it through the glass sliding door,” Arriaga said.

The suspect’s son, who was standing inside the residence, suffered moderate injuries, according to Arriaga.

“A physical altercation then ensued between the victim and the suspect,” Arriaga said.

Mario Navaleta 46, from Canyon Country, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, Arriaga added.

Navaleta was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $0, according to arrest records.

Navaleta’s son was treated on scene by medical personnel, according to Arriaga.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
