At around 4:41 p.m. Saturday, first responders received reports of a structure fire with heavy smoke on the 23200 block of Lyons Avenue in Newhall, according to supervisor Melanie Flores with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Responders on scene reported seeing heavy smoke from a two-story commercial strip mall.
“It was a two story strip mall,” said Flores. “There was a fire in the attic of the building that was declared knocked down within an hour.”
A “defensive” second alarm response was called for by first responders in an effort to put out the fire. Knock down was announced about an hour after the fire began.
No injuries have been reported at this time.
