Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, cosponsored the Countering Harmful Influence Nationally and Abroad (CHINA) act on Monday, to stay ahead of threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Due to the growing threat of the CCP, Garcia cosponsored the CHINA act on Monday, Aug. 2, to protect national security chains.
“We can’t be complacent with remaining competitive with China, we need to stay ahead of China,” Garcia said. “I’m pleased to co-sponsor this bill aimed at combating the increasing threat of the CCP. China desires nothing less than surpassing the U.S. on all fronts.”
Throughout the legislation, the bill is expected to address China’s actions in regards to the Coronavirus pandemic, accessing the data of U.S citizens using mobile applications and the way the CCP is utilizing their propaganda, according to Garcia.
The bill is essential as “it would also protect against threats to the U.S.’s security across a range of sectors including education, defense, cybersecurity and financial services,” officials said.
With Garcia’s involvement, the U.S. medical and security supply chains are expected to be improved which may support these supply chains in Santa Clarita.
Apart from specific supply chains being improved, investments within research and development are set to be enhanced, according to officials.
“Residents should stay knowledgeable within the CHINA act as the bill is set to provide “Tangible solutions to help America stay ahead of the CCP, which is imperative to the safety and security of our nation,” Garcia said.
