Garcia Offers Amendment To Stop California High-Speed Rail Federal Funding

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, offered an amendment during the House Appropriations Committee markup of the FY2023 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Bill that would prohibit federal funds from being used for California’s failing High-Speed Rail project.

Originally, the high-speed rail from Los Angeles to San Francisco was estimated to cost about $33 billion and begin operating in 2020, said officials with Garcia

However, the failed project is now projected to cost $105 billion and counting, and still has no concrete date of completion.

“This rail project was meant to cost the taxpayers only so much, and yet the failing execution of this project is now resulting in a ballooning cost estimate without a realistic timeline for completion. The coordinate system for this project is completely out of whack from its initial plan, which is why I proposed there be no further federal dollars wasted here,” said Garcia. “This is a straightforward amendment. I’m not anti-trains. I think they serve a purpose in the greater metropolitan areas like Los Angeles and San Francisco. I am, however, anti-government waste and that is why I proposed this amendment.”

Garcia’s amendment was ultimately shot down by the Democrat majority in the committee, officials added.

Last year, Garcia advocated against funding the California Rail Project to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg during a House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development hearing.

  1. Finally someone taking action! That’s one reason you were re-elected. Our community supports you. 🇺🇸

  2. Good. The voters were flat out lied to and a criminal level of overspending to connected vendors was involved. All sorts of fraud and mismanagement detected and yet it continues full steam ahead. And by the way, NOT high-speed rail at all. Stop voting for these government projects which only serve to enrich elected official connections.

  3. It was always a useless boondoggle, Pork Politics, Big Spending, put people to work waste of taxpayers money. There is already Amtrak, and they lose money. NOBODY needs to go from Merced to Bakersfield at 180 mph. It is not even a commuting corridor. It is an agriculture economy.
DonkeyPox is the disease killing California. Tax everyone else and blow the wad on idiotic ideas OF HYPOCRITE POLITICIANS.

  4. A train to Vegas or SF? Sounds cool to me. Traffic and $7 gas sucks.

    • Mike Garcia Sofa King Lame

Exactly Paulie, Mike Garcia and his supporters are a bunch of backwards dinosaurs. They fail to realize we need better transportation methods in this great state. The traffic blows and gas is also something we should be using less of.

For some odd reason, they think this guy is some sort of Saint because he busted a couple pot grows, big woop. Garcia is still a bozo who hasn’t publicly come out against Trump, who is single handedly the most destructive and embarrassing proponent in this country’s young history.

  5. Just more & more & more of Liberal Scams! More & more proposals with Weasel wording to trick/fool voters without a magnifying glass designed to rape basic readers with more Liberal deceit! Honestly & dignity is gone in the once fantastic USA, yet they keep pushing it year after year! Remember, if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s (Jerry) Brown flush it down!! Demons at their best, disgusting!!

  6. Garcia is a disgrace and this is another example of his ultra right wing Trumpism foolishness. It’s too late in the project to pull the c rug out from under it and waste all the money that’s already been spent. Besides, this is a way to get back some of the money that Californians have sent to the federal government. It’s not like this would save Californians any actual money.

  7. Thank you !
The bullet train to no where is useless.
Watch that crazy guy in Sacramento, once he starts running ads in catch states we’ll know he is eying DC.

    Barf

  8. That train was not to SF nor Las Vegas. It was Merced to Bakersfield, where no one needs fast trains. There are MANY reasons why this was always a bad idea and waste of money with ZERO prospect for recovering the BILLIONS it was going to cost.
There was no logical and reasonable route, trains would slow to molasses speeds where they integrate with Metro Link and BARF.
The Tehachapi mountains are in the way, the Tehachipi loop circles one mountain to gain or lose altitude, it is not a speedway and goes way out of the way like Mojave and Tehachipi.
It never made any sense financially; if it did, private sector would build it cheaper.
