The fundraiser benefits the charity programs, “The Shoe That Grows” and “Feeding Dreams Cambodia,” who plan to take the funds generated by the event to help children in the impoverished country buy their first pair of shoes.

“Those that are without shoes can grow sick, can’t go to school or help their families,” states “The Shoe That Grows” website. “These ‘shoes that grow’ are packed in large duffel bags and sent to (Cambodian nonprofit) groups.”

This event is scheduled to take place on March 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are available at the event entrance and cost $15 per person — equal to the price of a single pair of shoes, according to event organizers.

The event is set to feature craft centers where attendees and their families can paint rainbows on rocks, make puppets and send “long-distance hugs” with the shoes their ticket purchase helped support, according to event organizers. Also, children can participate in a drum circle with instruments provided by Remo Drums.

“The purpose of the drum circle is that it mimics the rhythm of a heart beat, bringing children together because the heart beat is universal,” said Joan Darlene, one of the charity event organizers. “It’s important to teach a child to make a difference and have fun at the same time.”

In addition to the crafts and music activities, those in attendance will also have the chance to speak with author Robin Holmes and illustrator Matt Harrington, who published their book, “Gray Town,” together.

Holmes and Harrington’s illustrated children’s book teaches kids about kindness and having an impact on the world, all the while following the story of a young boy who wishes to make a “big change” in his hometown, according to the publisher’s website.
