‘Glee’ Actress Naya Rivera Autopsy Report Reveals She Called For Help Before Drowning

An autopsy report released by the Ventura County Medical Examiner revealed that “Glee” actress and Valencia High School graduate Naya Rivera called for help before she drowned in Lake Piru in July, officials said.

Rivera, 33, of Los Angeles, grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley and graduated from Valencia High School in 2005. She is best known for her role in the musical comedy television series “Glee” as cheerleader Santana Lopez.

On July 8, Rivera’s 4-year-old son Josey was found alone, asleep on a pontoon boat that had been rented earlier that afternoon, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) at the time. His mother was nowhere to be found.

Reportedly, the two had been swimming when Rivera helped her son back onto the boat, after which the child “noticed the decedent put her arm up in the air and yelled ‘help,'” said a Friday report from the Ventura County Medical Examiner. “The decedent then disappeared into the water.”

After days of searching, Rivera’s body was recovered from Lake Piru on July 13. Authorities at the time determined that there were no signs of foul play, and that whatever occurred was likely a “tragic accident,” according to VSCO public information officer Chris Dyer at the time.

The autopsy notes Rivera “was considered to be a good swimmer,” however, it also states that the actress also was known to suffer from vertigo, which “would get worse when she was in the water.” She had also experienced a recent sinus infection, and had a blood alcohol content of 0.016 percent — less than a quarter of the legal limit.

The man who rented Rivera the pontoon boat said she declined a life vest,  but he included one onboard the boat anyway. It was found on the pontoon during the VCSO investigation.

In the report, the medical examiner determined via toxicology that Rivera had a small amount of the prescribed anti-anxiety drug diazepam, as well as the appetite suppressant phentermine in her system, but did not identify physical conditions or drugs as factors in her death.

Additionally, there was “no known history of suicidal ideation or attempt,” according to the autopsy report.

Rivera’s official cause and manner of death is recorded as an accidental drowning, the report states.

  1. Really was she frozen in time or something, bunch of idiots.

  2. I think a loss is a loss for all her family and it sad to hear FUBarlavi talk like that I hope you don’t have children or family because that is what you are teaching them.
Good luck and God bless you.

  3. RIP Lady Actress
Have to agree with Barlavi. Why in the world
would any clear headed person go to a dangerous lake with your precious child? This woman had to be on some type of controlled substance to jeopardize herself and son.
She sounds like she had mental issues. So sad for everyone

  4. Her SON revealed she called for help not the autopsy! And for those saying she had to be on drugs and knowingly put her son at risk. I live a few hours away from said lake and until her death never even heard of this oh so dangerous lake or its dangers. I have been to the few closest to me with my kids and I suppose I must be high as there have been several deaths in the safest part of the closet lake and being a single mom have still taken my kids to not only that lake by myself but to the same spot where several people have died.

    • What people don’t understand is phentermine is the highly addictive drug I used it to lose weight for three months and it made me have really bad anxiety I would Panic a lot for no reason mixing alcohol with Phentermine is not a good idea it will f*** a person up people don’t understand she was a train wreck

  5. How can an autopsy reveal that she called for help?

  6. Lake Piru is a lake filled with mud, roots and lots of debris left by the public. Many people have drowned by the cold windy current and have gotten tangled up in all the crap
    below. Not to enticing.

The combination of Diazam (Valium), Phentermine (appetite suppressant) and low alcohol blood count in Ms. Rivera’s system was a recipe for her untimely death.

  7. Some of the people that comment on this site are really the scum of Earth.

  8. Some of you a__holes need to keep your F up immoral comments to your self. She was a daughter, a mother, and a friend to many people. To say ” good riddens” and she was a mental case shows your compassion for another human life that perished in a horrific way, right in front of her child. How can you wish that on anyone. If you would spend more time in a Bible and less time offending the deceased, you may become half of a true human being. Go to church once in a lifetime. If not keep your F____ing insults and trash talk to yourself!!

  9. watch your mouth Barlavi. you better pray that your life is worth living.
