Guest Speaker Set To Discuss ‘Generation Z’ At Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center

A guest speaker has been invited to speak on the values and motivations of “Generation Z,” those born in the early 1990s to mid 2000s, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center next week.

Dr. Corey Seemiller’s presentation titled “Who is Generation Z?: Determined. Open-Minded. Compassionate,” will explain the characteristics, motivations, values and preferences of society’s latest demographic, according to event organizers.

Generation Z was recorded as 25 percent of the U.S. population in 2015, which makes the demographic larger than the “Millennial” and “Baby Boomer” generations, according to Forbes.

“Dr. Seemiller’s presentation will shed some light on this new group of young people that is passionate about discovering solutions to our local, national, and global problems,” said Patty Robinson, faculty director of civic and community engagement initiatives at the college. “They represent a generation concerned with equity, civility, and mutual respect.”

Seemiller is an educator, researcher, and speaker on Generation Z, according to College of the Canyons officials. She has been featured in a wide range of publications around the world, including NPR and The New York Times.

Seemiller has also been featured as a TedTalk guest.

Seemiller is the author of “Generation Z Goes to College,” “Generation Z Leads,” and her most recent book, “Generation Z: A Century in the Making,” is gaining nationwide acclaim and recognition, according to officials.

The presentation is scheduled for Thursday, March 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission to the event is free and open to the public, and free parking will be available for the duration of the event, according to COC officials.

Seemiller will also lead a free interactive workshop the next day, Friday, for those who wish to learn how to engage with Generation Z at home, school or in the workplace from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Mentry Hall (Room 343). RSVP is required.

To RSVP for the “Engaging and Working with Generation Z” workshop, email patty.robinson@canyons.edu or call (661) 362-3992.

  1. Sounds like a great speaker. I am so disappointed bc/ her speech is the exact time and date as the 8th grade presentation at Valencia High School. Gen Z will be embarking on their high school experiences.
