Identity Of Suspect Killed In Valencia Deputy-Involved Shooting Released

The identity of the suspect killed in a Valencia deputy-involved shooting on Sunday at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has been released, officials said.

Raymundo Aaron Ceja, 32, of Newhall, died at a local hospital Sunday after being shot by a deputy near the station on Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia, according to Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

Ceja had been armed at the time of the shooting, according to LASD Homicide Lt. Derrick Alfred.

The shooting occurred when deputies exiting the station’s secured parking lot encountered a man armed with a handgun in the public area of the parking lot shared by the station, local library and courthouse, according to Alfred.

The deputies attempted to detain the man and ordered him to lower his gun, but the suspect reportedly refused to lower the weapon, leading to a deputy-involved shooting, Alfred said.

“One deputy fired two rounds, striking the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead,” Alfred said.

No deputies were injured, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident remains under active investigation as of Monday morning.

  1. Good work officers. Another POS bites the dust.

    • That POS you say so damn easily was my brother. His intent was not to kill. Unfortunately he wanted out of this world and this is what he chose to do. You’re nobody of importance for me to explain this to, but I’d wish to think you have the ability to be able to learn to see things differently next time without such quick judgement. Broaden that narrow mind of yours. He was very much loved.

      • Yes he was indeed. He was a very kind person who went out his way to help other people out including myself. Always greeted me with a smile and asked me how I was doing. I wish I had an opportunity to get to know him better and perhaps help him with whatever he was going through. He definitely had no intentions in harming anyone but no one but his friends would have known that. It terrible the things people will say about someone they don’t know, protected behind their keyboard like some kind of internet warrior. In reality, he needed some help with whatever he was going through. I only wish we could have helped him. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten.

      • I am so sorry for your loss. Mental health issues impact so many. I just think with all the training a shoot to wound…not to kill…could have occurred. Praying for you and your family.

      • Then why not do it himself. Why invoke others and possibly injure more. Sorry for your loss.

      • Marta, I’m so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine the pain he must have been in to have driven him to do that. May he Rest In Peace.

      • If you are insinuating that this incident was suicide by cop then I’m sorry for the deputy who had to take this persons life. Suicide is a very selfish act especially when you put the burden on someone else to kill you. This deputy will have to live the rest of his life knowing he killed another human being. Hopefully he has the right mindset to know it wasn’t his doing. That isn’t always the case and many times officers have to live with always thinking about how they took someone else’s life. Things like this really take a toll on a person and we should always think of these things when rushing to judge our law enforcement community.

      • Marta, my heart goes out to you and your family. People can be so cruel.
Our daughter was the victim of rape here in SCV when she was 13. Several other girls had also been raped by him.
After an article appeared online (here) about his arrest, hateful comments started coming. Some comments were cold and heartless, blaming the girls or saying it was bad parenting that caused the rapes.
Some people are ignorant, heartless and just so self righteous. I’m sure they would be singing a different tune if something tragic happened to one of THEIR loved ones.
Praying for you and your grieving family at this most difficult time.
        Take care.

        • Are you comparing rape victims to a man who threatened officers with a weapon? I am pretty sure someone who attacks rape victims is a Horrible person, whereas insulting someone who chose to threaten the lives of innocent people is understandable.

      • So sorry for your loss. I pray his daughter will be ok. So tragic., Prayers for your family Marta.

      • I am so very sorry for your loss. I can sympathize with the loss of a loved one to suicide. So tragic and hard to comprehend.
I also know how much guilt and grief an officer goes through when something like this happens. Law enforcement officers are human too and this effects them and their family profoundly as well.
A senseless tragedy for all involved.

    • You don’t know everything so keep your reply to yoursel

  2. The protection of the community is difficult to say the least. Rarely do the officers get any kind of credit for a job well done. Shooting a person is not something they want to do, but it is something they are trained to do. When anyone with a weapon doesn’t respond to officers, this is a risk the victim takes. Officers have to be quick thinking to make sure others don’t get hurt also. How often do we think of the officer, their wife, or children? No one is above the law! Thank you for protecting us, officers!

  3. We don’t know what psychological state he was in. Not a healthy one for sure, for him to have showed up at the Sheriff’s station armed.
If you have a soul and an ounce of compassion, pray for this man’s loved ones who are in great pain right now.

  4. Marta
So sorry for this tragedy. You’re brother was a kind soul when I knew him. Prayers for your family!

  5. You don’t know everything so keep your reply to yoursel

  6. Yes Marta ok you say he was your brother and sorry for your loss. Anytime a human dies of anything other than natural causes it’s a tragedy. However I’m not sure why you and others always make excuses and blame the police when things happen. Bottom line it was nobody’s fault but his. Not only was he selfish but now there is a deputy sheriff that has to live with that every day. That’s just not fair! Idiot liberals are so quick to judge and blame the police for everything. As far as Caring Liberal Soul there is no training of shoot to wound. When someone has a deadly weapon you shoot to stop the immediate threat. There is no spot on the body that would stop a deadly threat by only wounding. A leg shot won’t keep the suspect from shooting. Shooting the weapon out of the hand only happens in the movies. The police shoot at the biggest target possible to stop the threat NOW. The only other way to prevent this is don’t have a weapon and threaten the police. There’s plenty of taxpayer help out there nowadays if you are feeling sad or feel offended by something.

  7. Good work ! Minus another criminal

  8. Millions of cameras in and around where Ray was at plus the body cams of the officers… file a lawsuit to get video of what really happened… Never trust cops!

    • This is an absolutely ignorant statement! He was pointing a gun at officers who told him multiple times to put it down. What do you think was going to happen?? Do you think those officers planned on killing a man that day? That officer and his family now have to live with that for the rest of their lives. If that man wanted to end his life as sad as that is he should have just done it instead of having someone else do it for him.

  9. Folks, don’t be so quick to judge, just because he’s brown, black or white, we don’t know if he was on narcotics which make one do crazy stuff, but this young man was someone’s son, brother or father. The garage gates should always be shut no matter what or even guarded to protect our civil workers, hope they take precautions now. And I hope the Ride Along volunteer was not traumatized. Yikes!
