Clayton Kershaw pitched seven scoreless innings against the Giants Tuesday, lowering his career ERA against the Northern California rivals to 1.68. He’s pitched an incredible 337 1/3 innings against the Giants with a 23-11 record.
The most impressive thing about Kershaw will always remain his competitive nature, as he wasn’t satisfied after a six strikeout/shutout performance, calling the game “a little bit of a grind,” according to reporters in the postgame interview (Dodgers.com).
He got some help behind him in the sixth inning when MVP candidate Cody Bellinger made a catch at the right field fence. Joc Pederson and Kike Hernandez helped him at the plate–Pederson hit his 19th home run of the season (ninth in the National League) and Hernandez hit a grand slam in the seventh inning for the knockout blow.
Los Angeles crushed San Francisco 9-0 for their MLB-leading 49th win of the season (an impressive 29-9 at home). And Kershaw is back in the top ten in the National League this season in ERA (2.85).
Tonight, they host the Giants going for their 50th win. Rich Hill takes the mound with first pitch coming at 7:00.
