The KHTS Radio broadcast was received more than 5,000 miles away in Sweden by radio enthusiast Göte Lindström.
The 66-year-old Swede retired from his work as CFO and Real Estate Manager at a journalism school in southern Sweden last year and has had more time to indulge in his hobby, which included a recent listen to KHTS’s airwaves.
Lindström tuned in to KHTS briefly early Saturday morning, and made sure to hear the station identify itself.
“I am a radio enthusiast since 1969 and my favorites are stations in the AM/mediumwave band but I also listen to shortwave,” wrote Lindström. “I collect verifications from the stations I hear and I have until now approximately 1,570 stations in 158 different countries verified.”
Lindström uses a pair of receivers to tune in to broadcasts, a Perseus software defined receiver and an ELAD FDM-S2 software defined receiver, in combination with directional antennas beamed to different parts of the world, to listen in to stations across the planet.
In addition to his hobby of collecting verifications, Lindström is also an amateur HAM radio operator with the call sign SM7XUF and runs a farm with a herd of sheep and lambs with his wife Karin.
This was not the first time the KHTS signal was confirmed to have been received in the Scandanavian region.

Another radio enthusiast from neighboring Finland, Antti Aaltonen, confirmed he received the station’s signal on a listening trip to the far north of the country in 2017.
Aaltonen was able to listen in to the KHTS Broadcast for several minutes from a location 175 miles north of the arctic circle in Finland.
“Picking up distant radio stations has been my favorite hobby ever since I was only 11 years old,” said Aaltonen in 2017. “I must admit that North American stations have always been my favorite stations. I enjoy the programming very much and when reception conditions are favorable, the reception quality may be excellent.”

That’s totally amazing, considering the station’s bandwidth! They must have some receiver!
I think 1220 kHz is a Canadian clear channel. Not a lot of interference between here and Scandinavia. CJOC in Alberta is a popular DX target on 1220.
