Due to Los Angeles County’s vulnerability to wildland fires, Santa Clarita residents in high-risk areas recently received a survey and offer of assistance from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Department of Animal Care and Control about preparing emergency plans for pets, animals and livestock.

Animal owners with small pets like dogs, cats, fish, birds, etc. should have a plan ahead of time that will get both owners and pets out of harm’s way quickly and safely, according to the notice, so Animal Care and Control is offering help to anyone who needs assistance in developing a plan.
Those interested in receiving help to establish an evacuation plan can complete the survey and return it to LACoFD officials.
For residents with large animals, specifically horses, the county is asking owners to join in the effort by providing information that can assist county fire officials in serving those who need help evacuating during a wildfire.
The letter provides the community with a survey asking residents about the animals they have on their property so that in the event of a fire, the LACoFD will contact those who listed large animals.
The survey asks homeowners to list number of horses and livestock on their property. Residents may also confirm if they need assistance transporting animals.
In addition to evacuation assistance, residents will also be asked if they need temporary shelter for large animals and if they would like to have their evacuation plan evaluated by the LACoFD.
For more information, questions or concerns, residents can email Maria Grycan of LACoFD at Maria.Grycan@fire.lacounty.gov or Danny Ubario of the County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care & Control at JUbario@animalcare.lacounty.gov.
