UPDATE: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Search And Rescue Team Airlift Injured Hiker In Newhall After Search

Los Angeles County Fire Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue officials have airlifted an injured hiker after a search that lasted nearly two hours in the East and Rice Canyon area Sunday afternoon.

Update: (2:30 p.m.) The hiker was found and airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall hospital by Helicopter 14 around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The patient, initially reported as a female in her 50s, had sustained minor injuries, according to Supervisor Pickett with the LACoFD.

Original Story: Just before 12:45 p.m., fire officials responded to reports of a hiker in need of assistance several miles up the trails near East and Rice Canyon in Newhall, which is accessible via The Old Road.

As of just before 1:50 p.m., fire officials were still searching for the hiker, according to Supervisor Ed Pickett with the LACoFD.

After initial efforts to find the hiker via the ground proved fruitless, LACoFD Helicopter 14 was dispatched to help in the search, according to officials.
