“Her mom is on her way to pick her up in Venice,” said Nicole Rivas, Toral’s cousin. “She was found safe and sound.”

Law enforcement officials had believed Toral may have also been seen in Inglewood — where her family recently moved from — but then expanded their search for the girl to other cities in Los Angeles County.

Her stepfather, Ruben Zuniga, confirmed to KHTS on Monday that Amanda had been spotted in the Santa Monica/Venice area on Saturday.

Additionally, family members believed that she was with her boyfriend Miguel Molina, 14, as well.

“Miss Toral suffers from anxiety and depression. Her family is very concerned for her well-being,” read a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released regarding her disappearance. “She may frequent the cities of Inglewood and Compton.”

Before being spotted and picked up by LAPD officers in Venice on Tuesday, the girl was last seen by her family just before 8 a.m. on Sept. 12 at Valencia High School, said Zuniga.

  1. What the hell does her suffering from anxiety and depression have to do with running away to be with your boyfriend behind your parents back? Nothing call it what it is!

    • Right you are. I would call her a Brat.

    • You’re an idiot Misty, get in your mini van and go away.

    • as a young adult/teen who currently suffers from anxiety depression disorder, i can say these feelings are normal. times have changed completely since our parents were teenagers, so parents need to understand this change. social media, cyber bullying, etc are all new things. adapting to big changes is hard. keep in mind this young woman and her family see these comments and i’m sure they’ve had a hard enough time lately. i’m not attempting to justify her actions. kidnapping is a parents biggest fear and i’m sure she knows she was being irresponsible in not contacting them at all, but it is not right or moral to proceed to cyber bully a young teen. i’m going to assume you are 30+ attempting to lecture these parents and this teen. worry about yourself and your own children(if any) and do not proceed to tell anyone your opinions when you do not understand what is going through this young girls head. YOU are exactly one reason why the internet can be so damaging to young people’s brains. sending my love to the family. nothing but positive words should be said.

  2. Misty, are you medically trained to offer an assessment of how depression and anxiety can influence a young person’s behavior and actions? It’s clear this young woman needs assistance in dealing with her family’s recent move to Santa Clarita, starting a new school, leaving behind her old friends and dealing with the pressures of being a teenager in these less than pleasant times. Instead, you jumped to the conclusion she simply ran away to be with her boyfriend. You might want to consider the external and internal circumstances/conflicts this young woman is experiencing. Try some compassion and understanding rather than a rush to judgement. I don’t know this young girl or her family, but I am grateful she was found safe unlike recent stories where young woman have met violent ends.

  3. Misty and OHSCGAL need to relaize that teenagers are different nowadays. They have different mind sets than everyone else and are still unsure how to act. Depression and anxiety don’t help the situation. Yes she should have just talked to her family or a therapist but there is still no reason to call names or be rude to a girl that can’t find her place. Just think back to a bad time you had as a teenager. We’ve all had a thought at one point in our life to run away. So before you go ranting about a girl and basically cyber bulling her look back on your life because no ones is perfect a** holes.

  4. I am a licensed psychotherapist. Depression and anxiety are only two factors that play into the feelings and behaviors of adolescent girls. A recent move, leaving friends behind, how she was adapting to her new school, are also simply a few factors that lead to complex emotions, situations, and outward behaviors.
If your leg is broken and not yet set in a cast, and I tell you to run a mile, most likely you will not be able to.
Being a teen with anxiety and depression can be debilitating. There is no easy answer without professional help (the cast to heal). Saying, “Brat” or “just do the right thing” etc. is complete ignorance about mental health issues. This is why resistance and stigma around mental illness.
