New Grand Theft Auto Prevention Safety Campaign Launches In Santa Clarita

In partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, the City of Santa Clarita plans to launch the “Guard That Auto” campaign in the spring to combat the increase in grand theft auto over the past year.

“Guard That Auto” is set to launch in the spring of 2021 with a primary focus on tips related to locking up and keeping not only vehicles safe, but the contents inside as well.

Officials say that the campaign is intended to educate drivers and citizens on safety tips in an effort to reduce the number of stolen vehicles in Santa Clarita.

Since incorporation, officials say that one of the City’s top priorities has been the safety of residents on city streets. Although Santa Clarita’s theft rate has remained well below the state average, there has been a recent uptick in these types of incidents, which led to the development of the new and expanded educational plan, City officials say.

“Guard That Auto” banners, posters and advertisements are scheduled to be seen throughout Santa Clarita, with social media content aiming to center on five main messages:

  1. Keep car keys inside the home and out of the car.
  2. Keep vehicles safe by parking in well-lit areas.
  3. Keep vehicles safe by using a theft protection device.
  4. Keep a spare key on hand, not in a car that can be stolen.
  5. Keep valuables out of vehicles.

In addition to traditional methods of pushing out information, the City is looking to reach not only drivers, but all residents in order to help everybody “Guard That Auto.”

To learn more about the “Guard That Auto” campaign, residents are recommended to follow the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the City of Santa Clarita’s social media accounts.

  1. In the last 28 days there have been 14 vehicles stolen in the SCV. In that same amount of time there were nearly 550 vehicles stolen in the San Fernando Valley.
I really appreciate our Sheriff’s Department. The job they do here is close to miraculous.

  2. Hopefully they’ll also catch the Hispanic gang/crew from the Newhall Arch/Race St. area for their constant stealing of catalytic converters!
